LORD CARDIGAN’S AIDE-DE-CAMP

TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMES.

Sir — In the mad charge at Balaclava it was a point of honour with most to penetrate at least through the Russian battery. Lord Cardigan states in his affidavit, “Lieutenant Maxse was wounded short of the battery and retreated.”

Now, it is true my brother was wounded, but notwithstanding this he persevered through the battery. The particulars of his separation from Lord Cardigan I am not aware of, but as he is abroad I trust you will insert this much on the part of

FREDK A MAXSE, Captain RN

Highwood, Romsey, April 26
